The Orchestras of the TYSA

Tacoma Youth Symphony
Tacoma Youth Symphony (TYS) Designed for advanced string and wind players. Rehearsals are 10:30 am to 1:30 pm Saturdays at the Rialto Theater. The Youth Symphony performs three season concerts, an educational concert, selected outreach concerts and an annual performance of Peter and the Wolf.

Tacoma Young Artists Orchestra
Tacoma Young Artists Orchestra (TYAO) Designed for intermediate to advanced string and wind players. Rehearsals are 10:15 am to 1:15 pm Saturdays at the BCPA Rehearsal Hall. TYAO performs three season concerts, a school tour and an outreach concert.

Tacoma Junior Youth Symphony
Tacoma Junior Youth Symphony (TJYS) Designed for intermediate string, wind and percussion players to perform repertoire primarily from the late Classical Period and early Romantic periods. Rehearsals are 2:00 to 4:30 pm Saturdays at the Rialto Theater. TJYS performs two season concerts and an outreach performance.

Tacoma Debut Orchestra & Symphonic Wind Arts Training
Tacoma Debut Orchestra (TDO) Designed for beginning to intermediate string players and intermediate wind players (SWAT). The first semester, the Debut Orchestra is a string symphony rehearsing on Saturdays from 8:00 to 10:00 am in the BCPA Rehearsal Hall. They perform one concert as a string symphony before SWAT joins them to form a full orchestra for their second semester. They also perform a retirement home concert.  SWAT works independently for the first semester, developing skills specific to symphonic wind, brass and percussion players.  They hold a separate first semester performance.

Tacoma String Philharmonia
Tacoma String Philharmonia (TSP) Designed for older beginning string players. Emphasis is on basic music skills. Rehearsals are Saturdays at the Urban Grace Church on 9th and Market from 9:30 to 11:30 am, including sectional and full orchestra time. TSP performs two season concerts and a school tour.

Tacoma String Symphony
Tacoma String Symphony (TSS) Designed for young beginning string players. Emphasis is on basic music skills. Rehearsals are Saturdays at the Urban Grace Church on 9th and Market from 9:00 to 10:45 am, including sectional and full orchestra time. TSS performs two season concerts and a retirement home concert.
